Our longstanding commitment to a design process based on prototyping and evaluation was forged during a series of projects funded by the National Science Foundation in the mid 1980s. In 1990 we researched and wrote "User Friendly: Hands-On Exhibits That Work," reflecting on what we had learned in the trenches of interactive exhibit design. Then we applied what we knew to designing a traveling exhibit that would attract and inspire millions of visitors in a three-year international tour.
